Introduction

"Comunications Tecnology is changing fast. The basic elementof written comunication is the oldest part of that technology - spelling - but spelling is still tecnology, and it can be made more user-frendly."

The previous sentence was taken from the article " Literacy for the Millenium ".  The spelling is not wrong but one of the numerous ideas of a more effective English spelling. Many critics of the traditional English spelling claim that it does not serve its primary purpose anymore.

Spelling should be a tool of communication, yet in today's time it is rather a social screening device. Tell me how you write and read, and I tell you who you are. Many native English speakers can neither read nor spell English very well. No wonder that non-Native speakers have even more problems according to the critics. Many languages have improved their spelling systems. English has not.
